iOS 26 Brings Cool New Tools to Apple CarPlay
Apple’s iOS 26 update brings a smarter CarPlay with new features like compact call alerts, widgets, quick text replies, and better in-car display support.

Apple has rolled out its iOS 26 update, introducing a major overhaul to the CarPlay experience with visual enhancements, multitasking tools, and broader in-car integration.
Among the standout changes, CarPlay now adopts the new Liquid Glass visual theme, which Apple is extending across its ecosystem. This refresh brings semi-transparent backgrounds, smoother visual borders, and an overall sleeker app layout, enhancing usability and aesthetics alike.
With iOS 26, the incoming call interface on CarPlay no longer hijacks the full screen. Instead, calls now appear as a compact bar positioned at the bottom, enabling uninterrupted access to navigation or other apps during conversations.
Apple also introduces a faster way to react to text messages within CarPlay. Drivers can now use on-screen response icons—like hearts, thumbs up, or exclamation marks—to send quick replies, minimizing distractions.
Another functional addition is Live Activities for CarPlay. This feature overlays real-time information—such as media playback, delivery updates, or sports scores—alongside maps while driving, enhancing multitasking without requiring users to leave their current screen.
Previously exclusive to the high-end CarPlay Ultra, customizable widgets are now accessible to all CarPlay users. Drivers can tailor their home screens with adjustable elements for music, weather, and more.
The upgraded CarPlay Ultra also gains traction with more carmakers. In addition to full-screen integration across dashboards, luxury vehicles such as Aston Martin now offer full support. Upcoming CarPlay Ultra compatibility is also expected from Ford, Hyundai, Kia, and Volvo, extending the premium experience to a broader range of vehicles.
